It is consistently one of the busiest airports in Brazil by passenger volume, handling tens of millions of travelers annually and connecting the capital to domestic destinations throughout Brazil as well as international routes.
The airport is named after Juscelino Kubitschek, the Brazilian president who championed the construction of Brasília in the late 1950s. Its design reflects the modernist architectural tradition that defines the city itself. Operated by Infraero and later partially privatized, the airport underwent significant expansion and modernization in preparation for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, boosting its capacity and facilities considerably.
