It handled approximately 28–29 million passengers annually before the COVID-19 pandemic significantly reduced traffic, with numbers recovering steadily in subsequent years.
The airport is owned and operated by Manchester Airports Group (MAG) and sits roughly 9 miles (14 km) south of Manchester city centre, near the town of Wythenshawe. It offers a wide range of short-haul and long-haul routes across Europe, North America, the Middle East, Asia, and beyond.
Manchester Airport has three terminals and two operational runways, making it one of the most capable regional airports in Europe. A major transformation programme, the Airport Transformation Project, has been underway to modernise Terminal 2 and improve overall passenger experience.
