The Airbus A330-200 is a shortened, longer-range derivative of the A330-300, featuring a reduced fuselage length and additional fuel capacity to extend its operational reach. It entered service in 1998 and quickly became a popular choice for airlines seeking an efficient widebody capable of transatlantic and transpacific routes without the cost of a four-engine aircraft.
Powered by two high-bypass turbofan engines from a choice of three manufacturers, the A330-200 benefits from ETOPS certification, allowing it to operate extended twin-engine overwater routes. Its commonality with the A330-300 and A340 family reduces training and maintenance costs for operators.
The aircraft typically seats around 250 passengers in a two-class configuration and has a range of approximately 13,400 km, making it suitable for intercontinental operations. Despite competition from newer aircraft like the A330neo and Boeing 787, it remains widely operated by carriers around the world.
Notable operators
Major operators have included Air France, Korean Air, Delta Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Air Canada.

Encyclopaedia
The Airbus A330 is a wide-body airliner developed and produced by Airbus. Airbus began developing larger A300 derivatives in the mid–1970s, giving rise to the A330 twinjet as well as the Airbus A340 quadjet, and launched both designs along with their first orders in June 1987. The A330-300, the first variant, took its maiden flight in November 1992 and entered service with Air Inter in January 1994. The A330-200, a shortened longer-range variant, followed in 1998 with Canada 3000 as the launch operator.
