Munich Airport (IATA: MUC, ICAO: EDDM) is the second-busiest airport in Germany and one of the top ten busiest in Europe, serving over 47 million passengers annually before the COVID-19 pandemic. It is the primary hub for Lufthansa and a major connecting point for intercontinental, European, and domestic flights.
Opened in 1992, the airport replaced the former Riem Airport and was purpose-built on reclaimed marshland northeast of Munich near the town of Freising. It is consistently rated among the best airports in Europe for service quality, cleanliness, and efficiency.
The airport features two main passenger terminals connected by a central area called the Munich Airport Center (MAC), as well as a dedicated satellite terminal (Terminal 2 Satellite) used primarily by Lufthansa and Star Alliance partners.
