Malindo Air is a Malaysian hybrid carrier that launched operations in 2013, offering a blend of low-cost fares with full-service amenities such as complimentary meals and generous baggage allowances. The airline was established as a joint venture between Malaysia's National Aerospace and Defence Industries (NADI) and Indonesia's Lion Air Group, bringing together regional aviation expertise. Operating from its main base at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA2), Malindo Air serves a network of domestic Malaysian routes as well as international destinations across Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and Australia. The airline positioned itself as a value carrier that did not sacrifice passenger comfort, differentiating itself from pure low-cost competitors. In 2020, Malindo Air announced a rebranding to Batik Air Malaysia, aligning it more closely with its parent Lion Air Group's Batik Air brand in Indonesia. The transition marked a strategic consolidation within the Lion Air Group's regional operations.
