The result is a layered scene ranging from backpacker bungalows on Lonely Beach to polished beachfront resorts on White Sand Beach and Klong Prao, with a pronounced lean toward mid-range and budget-friendly options rather than ultra-luxury mega-resorts. Family-run guesthouses and small bungalow operations tucked into the jungle hillside remain a genuine and common option, giving the island a character that feels less corporate than Thailand's more developed resort islands.

The destination is geographically split by a mountainous, forested interior, which means accommodation clusters tightly around specific beach stretches rather than forming a unified town. Each beach zone has its own micro-character: White Sand Beach is the most developed and tourist-facing, Klong Prao appeals to families and couples seeking calm, Lonely Beach draws budget travelers and a younger crowd, and Bang Bao — built on a fishing pier — offers a genuinely distinctive setting. Seasonality is pronounced: much of the island scales down significantly from May through October as monsoon weather arrives, and some smaller properties close entirely.

Note on the destination label: Ko Chang is firmly within Trat Province, Thailand — not Cambodia. The island sits near the Thai-Cambodia maritime border, which may explain the parenthetical confusion, but all accommodation, currency, and regulations described here are Thai. There is no significant Cambodian accommodation market on Ko Chang itself.

On the island, the main road runs along the west coast connecting all the major beach areas. Private taxi songthaews can be hired for fixed-price trips. The north of the island (ferry pier, Klong Son) is close to arrival points; White Sand Beach is about 10–15 minutes south by road; Lonely Beach and Bang Bao are 45–60 minutes from the pier. Guests staying in the south should factor transport time and cost into their planning, especially for early ferry departures.
