Pretoria, known as Tshwane, serves as the executive capital of South Africa and sits in the Gauteng province north of Johannesburg. Metered taxis must be pre-booked by phone or app; Uber and Bolt operate widely and are the safest, most convenient choices for on-demand rides. Minibus taxis are cheap and ubiquitous but can be confusing for first-time visitors.
