Tachikawa Airfield (ICAO: RJTC) is a military and government-use airfield located in Tachikawa City, Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It is operated by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and serves as a base for the JGSDF Eastern Army Aviation Unit, as well as other defense-related operations.
The airfield has deep historical roots, having served as a major Imperial Japanese Army air base during World War II and subsequently occupied by the United States Air Force after the war. It was returned to Japanese control in 1977 and has since been used exclusively for military and government purposes, with no scheduled commercial passenger services.
The surrounding area, once part of the former base, was redeveloped into Showa Kinen Park, a large national park open to the public. The airfield itself remains restricted to authorized military and government aircraft.
