It serves the prefecture of Preveza and provides access to the island of Lefkada, which is connected to the mainland by a causeway.
The airport primarily handles seasonal charter and low-cost flights during the summer tourist season, catering to holidaymakers visiting the Ionian coast, nearby beaches, and Lefkada island. Traffic drops significantly outside of the peak summer months.
The facility is operated by Fraport Greece, which took over management of several Greek regional airports in 2017 as part of a privatization initiative. Upgrades and improvements to the terminal and infrastructure have been undertaken under this management.
