RNZAF Base Auckland–Whenuapai, designated ICAO code NZWP, is the main operational base of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, located approximately 20 kilometres northwest of Auckland's city centre in the Waitākere area. The base serves as the home of several RNZAF squadrons and is a key hub for New Zealand's military aviation activities, including maritime patrol, transport, and helicopter operations.
Whenuapai has a long and storied history dating back to the 1930s and played a significant role in World War II as a strategic airfield in the Pacific. While it was once considered as a potential second civilian airport to relieve pressure on Auckland Airport, it has remained exclusively a military installation. The base is not open to regular commercial passenger traffic.
