Taszár Air Base is a military airfield located near the town of Taszár in Somogy County, southwestern Hungary. Originally built during the Soviet era, the base served as a key Hungarian Air Force installation throughout the Cold War period.
The base gained international prominence in the 1990s when it was used by NATO and United States forces as a major staging and logistics hub for operations in the former Yugoslavia, particularly during the Bosnian War and Operation Joint Endeavor. At its peak, tens of thousands of U.S. troops transited through Taszár.
Following the reduction of NATO operations in the Balkans, activity at Taszár significantly declined. The base has remained under Hungarian military control and is not open to commercial aviation.
