Shijiazhuang is the capital of Hebei Province and a major rail hub in northern China. High-speed rail connects Shijiazhuang quickly to Beijing and other major cities.

Best time: Spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) offer the most pleasant temperatures and clearest skies for sightseeing.

Local food: Try Zhengding's braised donkey meat, Hebei-style hand-pulled noodles, cauldron meat stew, and locally brewed baijiu spirits at street markets and traditional restaurants.
