The Boeing 737 is a short-to-medium-range narrow-body twin-jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. First introduced in the late 1960s, it has grown through multiple generations—the Original, Classic, Next Generation (NG), and MAX series—each offering improved fuel efficiency, range, and passenger capacity.
With over 10,000 aircraft delivered and thousands more on order, the 737 family is the most commercially successful jetliner in aviation history. It serves a vast range of operators, from major international carriers to low-cost airlines and regional operators worldwide.
The latest variant, the 737 MAX, incorporates CFM LEAP-1B engines and aerodynamic improvements for significant fuel savings over earlier models. The MAX faced a nearly two-year global grounding from 2019 to 2020 following two fatal crashes linked to its MCAS flight control software, before returning to service after extensive regulatory review.

Encyclopaedia
The Boeing 737 is an American narrow-body aircraft produced by Boeing at its factories in Washington state. Developed to supplement the Boeing 727 on short and thin routes, the twinjet retained the 707 fuselage width and six abreast seating but with two underwing Pratt & Whitney JT8D low-bypass turbofan engines. Envisioned in 1964, the initial 737-100 made its first flight in April 1967 and entered service in February 1968 with Lufthansa. The lengthened 737-200 entered service in April 1968, and evolved through four generations, offering several variants for 85 to 215 passengers.
